Welcome to the official website of Jacek Dukaj (), who is thought to be the most brilliant science fiction writer in Poland. His last novel "Ice" has received almost every Polish prize from its category, and also some from the literary main stream prizes including the European Prize for Literature - EUPL. His other creation, a novelette "The Cathedral" has inspired Tomek Bagiński to create a short animated movie, which has afterwards received a nomination to the Academy Award.
Jacek Dukaj's main features distinguishing his output and making it so valuable are his genuine ideas and maturity of his visions. Dukaj has got so many original ideas, that he's giving them away to the readers, with great or even carefree generosity. The author is surely aware that many of his ideas, he will never be able to transform into sterling novels, he sometimes recapitulates them in a form of fictitious reviews to never written books (as Stanisław Lem once used to do). The visions maturity of the worlds created by Dukaj involves showing consistently how the main element of the story influences, changes and revolutionizes different aspects of life, regardless if it's a new invention, different physics or a mineral able to modify logics. The author's creations are sometimes called 'total' for they show how the appearance of the world changes in many fields, such as economics, politics, psychology, society and sometimes religion. We invite you to get to know his astonishing visions in this site Reading Room. Unfortunately, so far only his debut "The Golden Galley" has been fully translated into English and is available in print.
